Griffith Blog....
Sitting here on the eve of freshers week and I have decided to take a pic of the Griffith College Clock Tower, something which is a key tool for the college marketing department with every headed piece of paper and broucher containing the image of the tower. Last friday I showed two ladies around the college because their father now living in Austrilia used to be based here in the army. Our college was an army barraks up until the late 1980s yet many of the people you ask on the street will tell you they have never heard of griffith barraks. It is strange named after the legendry Arthur Griffith one of the first barracks given back to the free state from the United Kingdom something we all studied in history class and yet no one in the capital city seems to know where it is? My question is where is our history gone? the barracks itself is now a private college one cant help but wonder with our celtic tiger rise have we forgotten where we came from? and the future and the dreaded recession will it help us regain memories of our past? it is does is it such a bad thing? One cant help the lack of certin American brands around dublin latley along with the mini coopers and the 'south side accents'. I dont blame the people, its just what happens when a country of people that come from nothing suddenly have everything we like to forget the poorer times and pretend, that wasnt us! Its called a falce pride! good bye false pride hello recession!
