Mountains of Mourne...
Well not quite........stayed in Dundrum with friends last night and had a wonderful evening catching up. It was such a rough day and night but we had great craic as they say here!
Today we went to Church in Newcastle which nestles in front of the Mourne Mountains. After Church we went for a walk and it was really cold and looked like a storm was on the way with big black rolling clouds, but it never came to anything. The mourne mountains include the highest mountain in Northern Ireland, Slieve Donard (2790 ft). This picture only shows the spot over Newcastle where the 'mountains of mourne sweep into the sea'!
And from good old wikipedia...
The mountains are immortalised in a song written by Percy French in 1896, "The Mountains of Mourne". The song has been recorded by many artists, including Don McLean.
The Mourne Mountains also influenced C.S. Lewis to write The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.[6]
"The Mountains of Mourne" are also mentioned in John Lennon's song The Luck of the Irish on the album Some Time in New York City.
