The loveliest stranger
I went to Limassol today with the express purpose of going to The Body Shop, as I am nearly out of eye make-up remover (and theirs is the only one that my sensitive eyes can cope with). I was most upset to discover that they, and all the Body Shops in Cyprus, are closing down, and they were just selling off the last of their stock. Eye make-up remover had sold out long ago apparently - how annoying. I passed by a little Christmas market in front of the castle on my way and saw this gentleman at one of the stalls, selling signed copies of his book Above Cyprus, which is full of beautiful aerial photos of the island. His name is Denny Rowland and he is both the photographer and the pilot (I didn't want to pry too much into the logistics of this, but he must be a seriously good multi-tasker). He was such a lovely man and I suddenly felt brave enough whilst talking to him, to ask if I could take his photo. He was very obliging and even told me where to stand (well, he is a photographer!), and gave me this wonderful wry smile. I bought 3 copies of his book, 2 to give as presents, and one for our own coffee table. It really was a pleasure to meet him.
