The Great Lafayette was one of the highest paid magician of his time.

His dog Beauty was a gift from the great Harry Houdini and had her own suite of room's ate five course meals and wore a diamond studded collar. She died four days before the show opened and is buried here in Piershill Cemetery, the City father's initial resisted the burial of the dog in the cemetery but only allowed on condition that when Lafayette died he to would be buried here.

Tragically during his act in the Empire Palace Theatre the place accidentally caught fire and ten of his fellow players were killed.Lafayette escaped but returned to rescue his horse and was killed. Two days later after the fire a body dressed like Lafayette was found in the ruins and in transpired it was a body double . A crowd estimated to number 2500,00 watched the urn being transported to the cemetery.
