Roosters
Mango and I visited the Suphanburi province today.
While Thai people claim to be buddhist, they also believe in spirits and worship ancestors. Spirits are often asked for help or protection. When wishes are granted the people thank the spirits with offerings.
Naresuan, who was king of Siam in the 16th century was very fond of cockfighting. That is why people whose wishes have been granted by his spirit thank him by bringing roosters to his statue in Suphanburi.
