Past Glories

Left to the ravages of time, this old pier lies derelict every passing year seeing it decay a little more, every winter the pounding of the winter storms takes its toll.

I remember this places as a child, I remember probably being younger than the twins are now and my father helping to renovate and old fishing boat, her name, I think was "Ladora". I remember hour after hour of sitting, freezing on her gunwale, watching the river traffic and the weather. I remember the smell of oil and diesel that in later life I would know so well working on the herring trawlers. I remember this was where I taught myself to tie knots, old rope and a book, banished to the bow to stay out of the way of the work begin undertaken.

All of this is an aside today, it was a grey day, in more ways than one today, my friend was blue, it seemed like a combination of of things conspiring to bring their spirits down. It is days like today that I feel the miles between us most, it is the kind of day I want to be there in person, not just a voice on the end of a telephone, soon though.. Tomorrow is another day, hopefully a better day in every way...

I hope you enjoy the shot today
