Who put that castle there?
The Victorians, it seems. (It replaced earlier models.) Still they had the idea that a castle should look grand, even if it was just a home for the courts of the land. Inverness misses a huge trick by not making this building an all singing all dancing, hands on museum of the Highlands of Scotland. In the summer, I see legions of tourists going up the hill, only to be disappointed because there's nothing for them to do. The Inverness Castle blues.
