Hoisting is carp!
Been hoisting since October half term and it's taken me this long to really come to terms with it. The hoist itself signifies the total loss of freedom that you get when your child becomes too big to manually lift. Gone now are those impromptu stops at places and taking part in activities where you would just sling him on and get on with it. Now everything is dependent on where there is a hoist and a changing bench and public ones are very few and far between. We're very fortunate that I have a changing bench in the van but now I need two of us to use it. Will be getting a hoist installed when I've saved up/got charity funding for the £1000 needed to do it. Everything also takes far longer. So spare a thought when you dash out the door with kids in tow and jump into your car for what it's like for all those families with a family member with similar needs to my son. Though I always feel a bit dodgy about complaining as compared to some with disabilities in other countries we are equipment millionaires.
