Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket...
A more accurate title would be, "Pick up a copy of Stardust by Neil Gaiman and put it in your handbag", but that doesn't sound quite so poetic!
At book club this morning, our reading group were invited by the librarian to choose one of these 'surprise' reads for the group. A selection of feel-good books had been chosen by different librarians and then wrapped up for readers to take a lucky dip and borrow over the Christmas holidays; a great idea and a good way to discover a book that maybe you wouldn't have thought of reading. And all with that built-in feel-good factor!
Our lucky dip turned out to be Stardust by Neil Gaiman. a fantasy come fairytale story, perfect for Christmas. I've seen the film which has a stellar cast including Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert de Niro and Ricky Gervais. If the book is as good as the film then it should be a great read, unlike our new group read, Ordinary Thunderstorms by William Boyd, not my cup of tea!
