The Bridge

I have left off this obvious and cliched imgae for ages but finally gave in.

For those who live on another planet - this is the Menai Straits suspension bridge - across the Menai Strait - in Wales.

I think it is an amazing piece of engineering - but is actually much better looking in its modern form that when it was originally built - when it has an extra length of chains down the middle and (from the models and images that I have seen) looked a bit over engineered - but then they didn't have computers then to check that it wouldn't fall down. And I suppose that staying up in the air is a major feature of a successful bridge!

Anyway - much better looking that the ugly sister bridge just down the straits!

Shame the image is EVERYWHERE around here in summer!
