Tucson Marathon

This runner is wearing a special number 19 because she is doing a Memorial Run. It is in honor of the 19 firefighters that perished in the Yarnill Hill wildfire. Most were part-timers without insurance and this Memorial Run is a fundraiser for the families. It is a fitting tribute to be included in the Tucson Marathon.

Because we will be moving out of our community, this will be the last year when I will be driving a Sag Van to drive tired or injured runners to the finish line. One of my passengers noted that she had just had a baby 10 weeks ago and now she is running a marathon. She ran about 17 miles before needing a ride.

Runners stood around for about an hour and a half before the start in the town of Oracle. It was dark and near freezing with a blustery wind and spitting snow / sleet. They claimed to be warm while running but one lady told me that it got really cold if a person started walking.
