Poinsettia
It's that time of year again, when the shops and garden centres are full of this plant, originating from Mexico, which has become synonymous with Christmas. The magnificent red "flowers" are actually modified leaves or bracts - the insignificant centre being the true flower. Poinsettias have also been called the lobster flower and the flame-leaf flower, due to the red colour.
