Higher tides

We have had spring tides and a tidal surge due to the persisting strong north westerly winds .These funnel the water in the North Sea and can cause flooding as in 1953.
There was no flooding in Harwich fortunately although the tide came up above the level off the pier in Harwich last night . Sea defences kept it from going any further.
There is a small ramp going down from the promenade for access to the beach by the lighthouse. It is normally well above sea level but was awash today. Seagulls were surfing in through the gap in the wall and the waders had moved onto the prom as the beach had gone !
