Paying my respects to Madiba
I had to drop someone at the airport by 5.20 am, so I rushed back into town to make it to the Grand Parade in time for sunrise.
I made it just in time and took time to view the various mementos left by people. I liked that it was so quiet when I got there, completely different to how it would be just a couple of hours later.
My favourite mementos were those made by children (and there were many). It's a well-known fact that Mandela loved kids and to see that love returned is sweet.
There were also notes from people who stood at the same spot on 11 Feb 1990 when he came out of prison and who remembered the day.
The common theme was really gratitude for what he did for the country and hoping for a new leader like him, even if, in his own words, "it's in our hands now".
