U-Bahn München: 21/100 Garching-Forschungszentrum
Munich underground: 21/100 Garching-Forschungszentrum
The 21st station in my Munich underground series and the second station, which is located outside Munich's city limits in the city of Garching (together with Garching and Garching-Hochbrück). Garching-Forschungszentrum (Research center) underground station was opened in 2006 and since then is the northern terminus of the U6 line. The station serves the research facilities above ground. Among others, these are the Departments of Computer Sience, Mathematics, Egineering, Chemistry and Physics of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Department of Physics of the University of Munich (LMU), some institutes of the Max Planck Society, and Germany's most powerful nuclear research reactor FRM II, a neutron source.
On the walls of the station are 26 plates, in honour of outstanding scientist, who had a connection to Munich.
