Autumn

Autumn began sometime yesterday in the afternoon here in Illinois, and I need to celebrate that before 24 hours have passed. And sunrise today began Autumn's first full day to walk about and stretch itself.

Here's a little slug I saw in the lawn this morning.

A fallen leaf is no more and no less
than Summer's wave good bye

Autumn -- that glorious annual handshake between Rushing-Forward and Running-Down -- invigorates me more than Spring does. My best season of the year is from now until Christmas.
