Hiding

On my run this morning I first went into the nearby Highfield Reserve which gives great views over Kawau Bay and beyond, to the Hauraki Gulf and Coromandel. The sun was already well risen, and was causing major glare on the water of Algies Bay. As I set off again, I saw a rosella, which disappeared as soon as I pointed the camera at it.

Then this tui hopped in and out of a number of trees beside the path, almost always being behind leaves and branches by the time I had managed to focus. Finally, this one last chance before it flew away. Both it and I thought at the time that it was too hidden to be a worthwhile photo.

On looking at it on the computer, I have decided I like it. The clear blue sky, and the spiky green needles of the tree provide a great counterpoint to the sharp eye, pointed beak, and glossy chest feathers with the unmistakeable Parson's collar at the neck.

Worth seeing large

Then completed a run on the road along the centre of the peninsula before heading back. Since then, I have had the joy of reading the agenda papers.
