FINGER FOOD
The tufted titmice are the only birds I’ve seen that hold their morsel while eating when they’re still at the feeder. I think the chickadees and nuthatches also hold their seed, but first they carry it away to a perch on a branch and nibble at it there. Cardinals on the other hand, put the whole seed in their beaks and just chomp away with tidbits a-flyin’! I’ve tried many times to get a shot of the titmouse eating, but they bob up & down pecking at their food so quickly, that I hadn’t caught just the right position to show this action until today. (You can see we had a bit of sunshine today!)
