In The Garden #5
By now it was getting harder to find any relic of colour in the garden, so I was trying to find pattern and texture, and noticed this large leaf near to my front door.

Cream - Tales Of Brave Ulysses (recorded May 1967 at Atlantic Studios, New York NY)
R.I.P. Martin Sharp (21 January 1942, Bellevue Hill, New South Wales, to 1 December 2013, Bellevue Hill), an Australian artist and illustrator known over here mainly for his sixties psychedelic posters, including the Dylan Mr Tambourine Man one that used to adorn my bedroom wall. He shared a living space with Eric Clapton, for whom he designed two of Cream's album covers, and wrote the lyric for Tales Of Brave Ulysses. He had written the words quickly on the back of a napkin, and these were put to Eric Clapton's melody, inspired by Judy Collins' version of Leonard Cohen's Suzanne and chords inspired by Summer In The City.
Ulysses was, of course, the hero of Homer's Odyssey, and the lyric references events from the poem. Sharp had recently been in Ibiza, the source of other images in the song, such as "tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers".
The song's life has been extended by its appearance in two episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, played by the character Giles.
