Tod Munn
We went to England in the summer and when we got back we found our favourite Thai restaurant had closed down in our absence. Since then we have tried a couple of different Thai restaurants but nothing came close. The sauces were too gloopy, or too sweet, or the portions were too large so we were full before the main courses arrived. A new Thai restaurant opened while we were in Europe (yup, everything happens while we are away) in the same building. It had mixed reviews and we were reticent about trying it. Tonight we gave it a try. It's called Sisters Thai and the cooking is done, ahem, by a couple of sisters. The husband of one of them was our waiter. The restaurant looks pretty much the same as the previous owners, (who returned to Thailand apparently after 30 years in the USA), left it, except that they took their Barbie doll collection and fishtank with them. The food was surprisingly good, reasonably sized portions, which means we can finish 2 appetisers, 2 mains and a dessert, non-gloopy sauces and unbreaded fish. Yay! We started with Tod Munn, minus the usual Goong, which was excellent, and a so so satay. The fish fillet with chilli basil sauce was very good, but was beaten into second place by the very excellent, unsweet, spicy green shrimp curry. We also polished off a mango and sticky rice. All in all we were pleasantly surprised and will be back :)
