Satnav shenanigans
This morning, I completed my journey to Thetford, setting off from the Premier Inn at about 9am. At first progress was good but then the traffic slowed more and more. According to the satnav there was an accident ahead and it offered me an alternative route that would save me seven minutes.
At first the alternative route seemed to be quite reasonable although I had my first doubts when I was told to turn into what looked like a farm. I drove past a shop come café and then turned a corner to be confronted with this view that you can see in the photo. Gamely I proceeded and looking over to my left I could see the main road I was avoiding. The traffic was stationary but that was beginning to look preferable to my adventure. Eventually, despite what was indicated on the satnav map, I reached a dead end and turned back.
I have to say that I wasn't looking forward to this trip and, so far, the whole thing wasn't going well: first the missing bedding and now this satnav disaster. So, I took a deep breath before my meeting and, indeed, the day went well from there.
In the evening, my friend John Heavens came over to Thetford and we went out for a bite to eat. The lady at the hotel had recommended a number of restaurants, including 'Cheers', a Portuguese place. It looked a bit scruffy from the outside but there was something I liked about it and, once we were in, it reminded me of restaurants in Turkey. I have to say that the food was the best I've had in ages, including this beauty, "steak on a stone", the house speciality.
