Independent Finland, 96 years old!
Today we have celebrated Finland's 96th independence day. Presidential Palace in Helsinki is being renovated so the biggest news of the day is that the Presidential Independence Day reception is held this year in Tampere, in Tampere Hall.
We drove to Tampere to see the fireworks, but were a bit late and didn't see all of it. The traffic jams were too bad.. Then we headed to Messukylä to participate to a Flash mob event of geocachers. The purpose of the flash mob was to take candles to Finnish soldiers graves who fell in the Second World War. Solders fought hard for Finland to remain independence. 95 000 solders died in the war and Finns honor their memory every independence day.
In the evening we had a raclette dinner and watched Presidential Independence Day reception from telly like most of Finns do.
There was a great article in BuzzFeed about Finland today: 12 Surprising Things In Which Finland Is The Best In The World.
