"It always seems impossible until it is done"

A large crowd gathered at Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow tonight to express sadness at his passing and celebrate his life.

The city stood up against apartheid, the first to give Mandela the freedom of the city, a symbolic honour while he was still in jail.

I was proud to be there in 1993 when he collected it in person. And proud again tonight.
