Frost on the Window

Tried to get a sunrise this morning, but nothing was happening so I came home and took this shot of the frost on the window of our front door. Apparently there were great sundogs in our area later in the morning, but I missed it. But again, many more cold days to come!
I wonder what causes the frost to make such unique designs on the windows. Not sure I need to find out, will just enjoy.
