Our local coastline is sandy and shallow, the tide sometimes doesn't come very close to the town, on other occasions, like yesterday it comes crashing in.
The RNLI have boats along the coast, but on many occasions they have problems getting to people in need of rescue on quicksands.
Southport Offshore Rescue Trust was set up by local people and is run by volunteers.
Rescue vessels and quad bikes are used as required.
Most of the funding comes via the charity shop shown above. They take in and sell almost any small items that people donate.
