Deconstructing the Baptist Church

Not deconstructing academically, but hands-on tearing down, board by board.

We knew this demolition was coming -- to make room for big new houses or apartments - and I've been by every day, hoping to catch a photo of the steeple coming down. But when we scooted by yesterday, it was already gone. Would have made a great blip.

I'm happy to report that the materials are mostly being salvaged for re-use. The Rebuilding Center is involved in the deconstruction and will haul away and sell the materials.

I wonder if they'll be able to sell the steeple. I can see the ad on cragislist: "For sale: used steeple. Includes cross. Makes good bird perch and antenna stabilizer. Ten gold coins or best offer."
