River Kelvin in full flow

Today I should have been in Edinburgh at an event in its International Conference Centre. However the worst storms of this winter arrived during the night and early morning, completely knocking the roads and railways for six. I drove to the Park-and-Drive at Kelvinbridge subway station, and from there reached the main station, but all trains were cancelled and the bus was expected to take hours. So eventually I abandoned things.

Emerging from Kelvinbridge subway station later, I could hear the roar of the river under the bridge. There was not a cloud in the sky by this time, but the volume of water rushing towards the Clyde was phenomenal. The photo shows the turbulence as the water emerged from under the main arch. (See large). However, it was on the shady side that the water was churning, twirling and roaring loudest, as it hit the bend in the river and ricocheted off the stanchions. But the structure was still standing when I left!

This shot is the most scenic showing Lansdowne Church on Great Western Road and its beautiful spire. Not the blip I expected to take today, but such is life!
