The Afterglow
Well what a day we had at Perth Zoo today! We anaesthetized our 26 year old male orangutan Dinar today and apart from the initial hand injection being not successful (we needed to use the dart gun in the end) the rest of his health examination went very smoothly. We had two human anaesthetists, a specialist ultrasonographer, a team of 8 vet staff and the carrying team of 8 - all playing their part at various times throughout his four hour long procedure. Thankfully he has been given a clean bill of health so far (a few tests pending), which is a good thing as he is vital to our international breeding program and fathered three babies so far!
I was extremely busy monitoring the anaesthetic all morning and so didn't manage to take any photos at all! But here are a couple of links to some online articles showing some pictures of him on the table and us all looking very busy! Apparently I was on the news too but I missed out on seeing that!

Home from work in the afternoon and on a high from the successful, busy day. Straight out the door with Bonnie and then straight out the door again for a run! This was the gorgeous sunset that I enjoyed for most of my 6kms :)
