I borrowed 6 boxes of 35mm slides from Mom & Dad and got them digitalised by a professional image specialist in Surrey. This is one of Doug's photos of the Easter Island Moai Statues. I'm not sure when the photo was dated, but looking at the images online these photos show little restoration of the heads and almost not erosion around their base.

I have hundreds of photos. Will need time to look through.
