Cat on a kilt

Lily the catten (not quite a cat yet!) enjoying the feel of the tartan as Mum sews a kilt.

Currently living at home and skint as a mint (not Royal), today I'm particularly envious of a cat's life... I spent the day sending emails and posting ads on the uninspiringly silent recesses of the web re: working as a maths/physics/english tutor. Nice rewarding work that'd be, in many ways. Be nice to use some of the skills I've acquired to make a decent wage, rather than busting guts scarring my hands labouring on the minimum wage, cf. almost every job of my student and travelling days...

Good skills and experiences from all those jobs though, and they kept me fit and strong while my body was finalising its basic shape, so they've done me well I guess. But it's not good work. You come home too tired to do anything other than veg until you go to sleep, and then you do it the next day. And it's not like you're rewarded for it-250 quid for 5 solid days, you can't help but lean left when the guy who made the phone calls rocks up in his Lexus. So it goes... I'm lucky cos I've only been in that World as a transient member (not that I'm certain I won't be back in it yet...!) and I've got options that'll fruit soon enough. But I find it genuinely sad that some people's entire lives are that. It's so totally unfulfilling that I can see why people get so twisted about everything that right-wing socialism says hello. But it's their fault for being closed-minded, right? They should read a book they can't afford after being at the gym for 8 hours. Though they'd never think of that, because their Dad never did it either. Much simpler to do what anyone'd want to do after a long day toiling - go for a pint. And then everyone else's at the pub, cos they've had the same idea. Thus begins the habit of a lifetime, or continues. Perhaps.

Off to Edinburgh tomorrow, on the job hunt, at least for the meantime until tutoring or sitting smugly at a piano in a fancy bar pays the bills. Gonna look in every nook and cafe in central Reekie (I happen to think it smells pretty fresh for a city, but I like to sound colloquial where I can...). Exciting times ahead once I'm out this limbo.
