On the fourth day of Christmas
On the fourth day of Christmas I've blipped four calling birds.
The garden has been busy on and off with birds throughout the day. The top left is one of the male chaffinches. They do like the sunflower seeds from the feeder but will also feed from the ground or the bird table. Several male and females frequent the garden but they are the most likely to fly into the windows.
The goldfinch is the one on the top left. Rather cheeky characters, often fighting and squabbling among themselves and with others. They tend to go around in groups and will fly off together. Less likely to feed from the ground and will also feed on seed heads.
Bottom left is a bluetit. A delightful bird to have in the garden. Not sure if this is one that hatched from the nestbox near the garage earlier this year. They will fly off with nuts and sunflower seeds and really enjoy the fat balls/squares etc. Hard to tell the male and male apart.
Bottom right is the gardeners favourite, the robin. We have a couple that come in the garden and they can be quite vicious chasing each other off and really fighting each other. They like the mealworms and smaller seeds. Tend to feed from the ground but will also fly up and take sunflower seeds or fat.
The weather is not looking at all good tomorrow, strong winds and snow. I like the snow but NOT the wind !
My Dad is home after his op. All went well but will know more tomorrow when his pirate patch is removed :) Thanks for all your kind wishes and supportive comments.
