Alive, Still Kicking

My good old friend John turned 72 today. He almost died in August. In the picture we are singing Happy Birthday without having lit the candles. No one in the room had a light.

John has been recovering about as much of himself to bring on the hope of a reasonably normal life, but he will not ride a bicycle, nor play tennis, nor climb a ladder again. In addition, there is a prohibition on alcohol consumption, and I have been invited to be an enforcer of sorts.

He'll be going home from the rehab facility in two days. It is a joy to see how his daughter Debby (2nd from right) stands by her Dad in this crisis. She has quit her job as a teacher in public schools in order to look after John.

John lives.
