End of a very long journey
What an odd day. Was not expecting a letter from immigration anytime soon. Maybe sometime next year, and then I was expecting an rejection and a call to an interview.
But today the letter arrived. I now have Permanent Residence in the US (with no conditions). It was the conditions bit being removed after 2 years of first entering the US that was today. This is the last stage of a very long process.
Emigrating to the US started mid 2010 with the initial application. But then, it's been longer than that as myself and my wife decided to make the US our home before we got married. It was a choice of London or Florida. Didn't take long to decide which to go for.
But today it's all done. Which is odd. It's been a bit odd since I got a rejection letter a few months ago, home didn't quite seem like home all of a sudden. My fault I got the rejection letter originally, I just didn't submit enough information (although it was what they wanted). Second time round we drowned them in paper.
It'll hit home on me in the next few days.
Note this is residency, not citizenship. I'm still British. For now.
