HDR Photography

I have discovered the the door to Fantasy Photography through HDR ( High Dynamic Range). The idea is,that you take a number of shots 3-9 @ different exposures,varying by +& -0.3 stops and then combine them through a program such as Photomatrix. This gives more highlight range and also more shadow detail?
You have a number of preset outputs,giving different extremes of enhanced images!
Works great on Landscapes and Architectural subjects or to achieve Abstract effects on Portrait?
