On a pilgrimage to Rome, Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone ( nicknamed Francesco by his father ), lost his taste for his wealthy, worldly life and joined the poor , begging at St.Peters Basilica. The experience led him to live his life in Poverty... He was proclaimed a Saint by Pope Gregory in 1228...
