The Greatest View in England...

... is the description often given to the view west from Sutton Bank in the North York Moors National Park. I don't know our southern neighbour well enough to argue, but it is certainly breathtaking. Standing high on the escarpment, with the panorama extending right to the three power stations on the horizon, the sense of air, light and space is enhanced by the near silent swoosh of gliders from the nearby airfield, and hawks and crows drifting by on the updrafts.

On Saturday we realised a long-held ambition to visit Joe Cornish's Gallery in nearby Northallerton. This reinforced my view that he is one of the very best landscape photographers, and that there is nothing to beat a real photographic print; much, much better than what we experience in books and online. But online is all I can show you - here is Mr Cornish's glorious view of Sutton Bank.
