Christmas Street

In our town, there is a street that is usually the first to decorate for Christmas each year. As a matter of fact, usually, every house on the street participates.
There are approximately 24-30 homes, each with its own theme or decor.
Over the years, the older neighborhood had become very well known. Up till 2 or 3 years ago, the street known as "Christmas Street" would host an open house for the community. The neighbors would bake cookies and snacks. They would serve hot chocolate and coffee. One house even set up their front porch to host a brass quartet, that would play Christmas Carols during that evening. Theyalso had a horse drawn wagon, giving people rides up and down the street.
The main event, aside from the beautiful lights, was Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Children lined up for a chance to tell Santa what their wishes were.
They would have to block traffic to the street, to allow everyone to be able to walk from house to house.
Hundreds of people would come every year for this event. It didn't matter what the weather, it always drew a huge crowd.
Now, even though they no longer host the open house, they still all decorate.
People still come with their children to see all the lights.
To me, it really seems like the "kick off" for the season.
Christmas Street, full of fond memories!
