Winter Droving Festival
The Winter Droving Festival in Penrith celebrates all things rural, magical, traditional and fun. When I first heard of this event I imagined it was real cattle involved - I was a little disappointed but I shouldn't have been as it's an excellent day. It starts at ten am with an array of artisan stalls selling food and other items and also a sausage eating competition which I would dearly have liked to witness! There are bands playing all day and a giant heater skelter in the form of a lighthouse. Loads of competitions for adults and children alike. Oh and plenty of beer and wine consumption. Tantus The Henge is a lively band on early evening accompanied by very talented fire dancers and the whole day culminates in a Ceilidh until the early hours - followed by some a short stay in local police custody no doubt - no nastiness just High Jinx.
