Olean
This house is in my neighbourhood and I pass it frequently. I haven't been able to discover why it's called "Olean". This seems to be an old Scottish surname, also spelled Lyon, Lyons and Lions. It dates back to the aftermath of the Battle of Hastings when the family was granted lands in Norfolk by William of Normandy. The family later came to Scotland. This house must have been built in the second half of the 19th Century and, while it's an attractive house which would sell for a fair bit, it can't be called a manor house or anything similar. The house next door is similar in style and is called "Thule", but I can't see any connection between those names - or at least Google doesn't seem to recognise one. One of these days I might pluck up courage to knock on the door and ask.
