Traditional Country Home

Upcountry, this is a common style of home. The underneath area is used to park a car, hang laundry in the rainy season, sit and chat to neighbors in the shade, eat lunch, and store things. It kind of like the equivalent to the western garage/patio/work shed. Behind the bottom open area is the kitchen, an open room with a sink and gas stove; a bathroom, a tiled room with a toilet, mirror and bucket for showers; a living/dining room, an open space with mats on the floor for eating meals; and a storage room with a refrigerator and closet. Upstairs is an open patio area for sitting or taking a nap and one large bedroom with mats and a mosquito net.

The houses are very open to let air flow and keep the house from holding in too much heat. This home is one of the largest I saw in the town. Many homes use the same style but are only half as large (or smaller.)
