Mairi Hedderwick - Scottish Book Trust

I've discovered the perfect way to bring down my blood pressure at work: listen to Mairi Hedderwick telling a story...

I snuck in at the back of a lovely session being held by Scottish Book Trust at BBC HQ in which the great Janice Forsyth interviewed Mairi in a live webcast going out to schools across the UK and the Commonwealth. Mairi talked about the people and places that had inspired her to write and illustrate her lovely Katie Morag books and we saw clips from the new children's TV series based on the books. If you haven't seen those, or don't know Mairi's work, then I highly recommend them to you. They are going out each Sunday evening at 5.25pm on the CBBC channel.

My favourite character is, of course, Granny Island. In the TV series she is played by the wonderful actress Ann Louise Ross who hails originally from my neck of the woods; she once told me that she remembers listening to my Dad singing at a wee ceilidh in her granny's kitchen when she was a little girl.
