St Andrew, early, take one
We keep the saints' days on the midweek services in my charges on the island and the peninsula, and today was the island's communion service. This week (Sat) is St Andrew's day, so it was his feast transferred to today on Bute. Tomorrow it will be St Andrew's feast in Cowal (and I will blip THEIR St Andrew window).
The Bute window is from 1902, apparently a gift from the Sunday School. His feet look a little funny and his face has faded in the 111 years since he was fitted. But there he is, patiently watching us.
The talk in the service? St Andrew, long dead, was mired in 8th, 9th and 14th century Scottish politics. What would he make of 21st century Scotland's political shenanigans? I do wonder...
