Chook

It's not every day you have lunch with a goat...

... or reach 100 blips, but we'll save that for later.

Today we hiked a 14km leg of the Lycian Way. One of the most spectacular walks I've done - the kind that, just when you think it can't get any better, it does...

Day started off shakily. We got a cab up to Faralya to avoid the hassle of getting a number of connecting dolmuses. Glad we did - pretty hair-raising road. I was leaning sideways inside the car to feel slightly more comfortable about how close we were to a 500m cliff with no shoulder or safety rails to speak of! Would have been even worse in a dolmus given the way they hurtle around. Our cab driver was very sedate in comparison.

Almost thought we were going to have to set off without breakfast, but then stumbled upon a lovely little motel that served us an enormous amount of food on a deck with views of Butterfly Valley. We even scored a huge pack lunch to take with us after a lot of sign language and rudimentary Turkish attempts. Finally. when our breakfast arrived. we pointed to the bread to indicate what we were after and got the giggles when our host finally proclaimed 'SANDWICH!'

The hike climbed up the shoulder of Baba Dagi, through a couple of tiny villages and past millions (literally) of bees. I was cursing the bee keepers of the Lycian Way before long, being bitten by three of them and scoring a nice puffy hand. We were lucky enough to see hundreds of paragliders stepping off Baba Dagi and floating slowly down to the beach. Spectacular! Had a late lunch under a tree when we finally reached a bee-free area, and were promptly joined by 2 very friendly goats just after a nuzzle and a biscuit. Continued on to reach stunning views of the beach at Olu Deniz 600m below us, before descending to the end of the walk.

Swim and a delicious meal washed down by a couple of beers back at our hotel. This is the life! We'll get a few more hikes in before the week is out. New trekking shoes are a winner, which is exciting.

So, 100 it is! It's become a nice little routine - very much enjoying the photography, keeping some kind of diary, all the encouraging comments and looking at all your wonderful journals. Thank you all!
