The Amazing Kata tjuta - Alice Springs
From Alice Springs we took a bus trip to Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park. So, to clear a few things up: Uluru is the real name for 'Ayers Rock' (renamed by us lot when we set up shop here and ran around renaming everything after white people - taking away all Aboriginal meaning). I am happy to say Australia is now working with the locals after creating a new aboriginal cultural centre at the Uluru site and teaching us about their long standing history and connections with these amazing sites.
In this picture we are at Kata Tjuta (26 km from Uluru). It is made up of 36 domes and covers 8 miles squared. The Aboriginal name translates as 'Many Heads' and is part of their 'dream time' stories. A rough summary of this story involved a bunch of hunters that slaughtered a group of men because they had stolen their wives and children. The round smooth surfaces of Kata Tjuta is meant to represent the many heads of these slain men.
