Leopard skin pillbox hat*

Newport's Green Fair took place today. It's an annual event that I always try to get to.

Trefdraeth or Newport (that's the little one in Pembrokeshire not the big one in Gwent) has been a hub of alternative living since John Seymour of Self-Sufficiency fame settled in the area in the 1970s. He returned to die here in 2004 and is buried on his own land where his tribe still live - several of them were here today, still actively pursuing and promoting his environmental ideals which are now very much in the mainstream of the sustainability movement.

Today, as usual, the Memorial Hall was bubbling with Green energy as a colourful tide of shaggy-haired and sweatered individuals of all ages gathered to buy, sell, meet and greet. With beards and braids, children and dogs, they created a cheerful hubbub, packed in so tight that it was hard to reach the stalls selling pots, textiles, woodwork, jewellery, bags, decorations, clothes and edibles.

And the hats? Reader, I purchased one! (Not leopardskin though.)

* Continuing the Bob Dylan title theme, here's the song.
