But, then again . . . . .

The Old Chestnut.

According to most of the web sites thrown up by Google, THE Roslin sweet chestnut tree is between 400 and 450 years old. Well, I was down there today and counted two of them. They are of similar size and this is the more handsome of the two; it is probably younger than its neighbour but then - perhaps it just doesn’t have quite so many worries. They are well known and venerated by the locals, but I know nothing of their history. However, 450 years old would make them comparative youngsters or ,at least, merely middle aged.

This link will take you to a curious, if fanciful, article about the trees but, at least, it acknowledges that there are more than one.

I’ve just posted yesterday’s blip of “The By-Pass.”
