Cranford

This village sign depicts the two parishes of Cranford St John and Cranford St Andrew divided by a tributory of the River Ise. The name is derived from a "ford frequented by Cranes or Herons". Once dependent upon estate farming and the massive ironstone workings in the area the stone thatched buiding shown on the sign was built as a dormitory for some of the village children by the local estate. Another reminder that this is a county of squires and spires (or, in this case, towers).
