First snow
Woke up to snow, not much in the valley but all the surrounding mountains are white. Not enough to ski yet, but I bet that the ski stations will have been delighted this morning. They always hope to be able to open on Thanksgiving.
The sky is completely overcast and this treetop ( of a very big tree) with this group of birds resting and "talking" made me think of a the last lines in a poem of Rilke , called "Autumn":
Whoever has no house now, will never have one.
Whoever is alone will stay alone,
will sit, read, write long letters through the evening,
and wander along the boulevards, up and down,
restlessly, while the dry leaves are blowing.
- Rainer Maria Rilke
translated by Stephen Mitchell
I believe that the birds were Red Robins, which are very big here but have the same red chest as the European ones. They love to live in groups over the winter.
A big "Thank you" for all your kind comments and stars for yesterday's blip. They were very much appreciated!!
