Visiting another library

Today we had a day out with the entire company. Twelve libraries in the city of Utrecht were closed for the day because of that. Approx. 140 employees went in two buses, drove for an hour to visit another library.

We were divided into six groups. In the morning we were all together in a large theatre room where we had some talks. After lunch we split up and had three more talks... The schedule said 'workshops', but it was just sit and listen... With the exception of a half hour tour through the library, which was not nearly enough time to have a good look really.

I had a good time, in spite of it being a bit too much to listen to in a day... It was very interesting to see how this library manages things, how they approach their members, how the staff operates, how they put books on display. Not too different from our own library, but different enough to have the desire to change some things at the home front. We are asked for comments in the time to come, what we would like to change. I'm not exactly sure if that will establish anything..., but it's nice to have dreams...

Afterwards we had dinner in a hotel near the library. The entire day including dinner was well planned. Everything went smoothly and according to time schedule. Perfect! I have never before experienced such a well organized day!
