Life in Sunny Dubai

Khalid & Fatima... (not their real names)

This is so not the blip I should have done today. Big News. We had a bit of weather. Rain even! Incredible. First time since the end of April. So this is what happens in Dubai when we have a bit of rain...

- The highway (SZR) gets clogged up because people have accidents - too much excitement about the rain.
- It is Thursday as it is, so this causes double mayhem.
- Schools got closed early today because a "cyclone" was coming up from Abu Dhabi. It didn't arrive, but the kids got to be home by 12pm.
- The bi-annual Air show and Flying Display got cancelled - but that is understandable.
- People talk endlessly about it raining look out the window and wish they were outside. They also hope it rains enough to actually get their car clean rather than just leave a deposit of dust/sand.

There you go.

These two belong to my colleague Louise and live on her desk. Their heads move when you touch them - like the Einstein's in Night At The Museum 2. Aren't they cute? Don't miss Khalid's sunglasses. You must know how particular people in this part of the world are about fashion. We saw specially designed Crocs for Arab men today, and I read a few weeks back that Giorgio Armani has designed a ghuttrah (head scarf) for discerning men. Women's clothing has changed beyond recognition with lots of bling now on their abayas. A good souvenir to take back if you have space in your luggage and on your shelf!

Big 80s party tomorrow and I am ALMOST ready. Got a special t-shirt made up for it and now having a go at my DJ program. I will get to you ASAP!

Got summoned to a meeting before lunch to talk about the office Christmas Winter Party. Guess who's DJ for that? Yup ... yours truly! :))
